While I think that cheapassfood.com is resourceful and funny, this idea to save money on booze I’m not so sure about, unless you really know what you are doing. From the site:
Absinthe – The Green Goddess Homemade
INGREDIENTS:
The recent Absinthe entry inspired me.
I have been making this for years and it works. Trust me… It just does not get cloudy when you add water, but mentally speaking it WORKS. (You can easily double the recipe)

1 Pint Vodka
2 tsp Anise Seed
4 Cardamom pods
(1 tsp crushed)
1/2 tsp ground Corriander
2 tsp crumbled Wormwood
1/2 tsp Fennel seed
1 tsp Marjoram
2 tsp chopped Angelica root
Sugar Syrup
INSTRUCTIONS:
Place Vodka in a large jar with a tight fitting lid. Add Wormwood, shake well; steep 48 HOURS then strain out.
Crush seeds and pods in a mortar. Add them and all remaining spices to Vodka; steep in a warm place 1 WEEK.
Filter and sweeten w/sugar syrup to taste.
